Areas of Competition
Candidates will compete in four areas of competition; panel interview, fun fashion, evening gown, and on-stage question.
Panel Interview
Candidates meet with our judges for a 7 minute panel style interview. Judges will take this time to get to know candidates and ask questions from the information provided in your candidate biography. Judges may ask questions about current events and world news, but will not ask political or religion-based questions.
Candidates should wear attire that is considered business casual. This may include dresses, skirt or pant suits, and jumpsuits. Avoid large or distracting accessories and jewelry.
Panel Interview is 40% of the overall score.
Evening Gown
Each candidate should select an evening gown that flatters their body shape and style and compliments their skin tone/hair color/etc. The gown should make you feel glamorous, elegant, and confident. Gowns must be age-appropriate. Evening gowns must be floor length, no high-low styles accepted.
Evening Gown is 25% of the overall score.
Fun Fashion
Candidates will model an age-appropriate outfit of their choosing that showcases their personality and personal style. Fun fashion can be anything from cocktail dresses to cowboy boots and anything in-between! Fun fashion may not be a full length evening gown style, a high-low style is acceptable.

Impartial. unbiased. equitable. fair.
It is the goal of America United pageant to provide an unparalleled experience for all of our candidates, included in that is a personal guarantee from the director that judging will be impartial, unbiased, equitable, and fair.
We stand on our promise with these guarantees!
01
Independent Judges
We will always do our best to insure judges do not have any pre-existing relationships with candidates. We know the pageant world is small and sometimes it is unavoidable that a judge and candidate have crossed paths in the past, all judges will be instructed to score each candidate without personal bias.
02
No Fraternizing
Judges will be kept separate from candidates during all non-judged pageant activities. Judges will not attend rehearsals, dinners, or events. Should a candidate meet a judge in passing there is to be no communication beyond a simple greeting.
03
Neutral Tabulation
All scores will be tabulated by a neutral, qualified party and will not be disclosed to judges, the director or pageant staff prior to crowning.
Judging Criteria
Panel Interview: Each candidate participates in an individual interview with our panel of judges. There are typically 3-5 judges on a panel. Interview will begin with a self-introduction, not to exceed 30 seconds. The body of the interview will be a combination of questions from information given on your candidate biography as well as current events. (This can be anything from celebrity happenings to reality TV questions to questions about your platform or the pageant platform.)
During the panel interview the judges will be looking for candidates who are well-spoken, clear and concise with their answers, and provide full and complete answers with thought behind them. Judges will also be getting to know the candidates character and personality. Judges are looking for a candidate who will represent their title with poise and confidence.
Fun Fashion: Each candidate will take to the stage in an outfit of their choosing. The fun fashion outfit should represent the candidates personal style and taste. Fun fashion can be jeans and cowboy boots or a cocktail dress and heels and anything in-between. Attire must be age appropriate, no ultra short skirts/shorts, plunging necklines, or cropped tops for pre-teen and teen delegates. Fun fashion attire should be in good taste and “family-appropriate” for all age divisions.
Judges will be scoring candidates on their confidence, modeling ability, how well the outfit suits your personality, age/division appropriateness of the outfit, overall fit, and the “whole picture”. Judges will not be scoring the actual clothing, brand, price, designer, etc. have no bearing on score.
Hats, gloves, scarves, jewelry and other accessories are encouraged, however no props will be allowed (e.g. fans, canes, purses, etc). Accessories may not be removed while on-stage. Masks are considered a prop and are not permitted. Fun fashion may not be a full length gown or dress of any kind, high-low hems are permitted.
Evening Gown: Each candidate will model an evening gown of their choosing. Gowns must be age-appropriate, no plunging necklines, high slits, cut-outs, or low back styles are allowed for pre-teen and teen candidates.
Judges will be looking for the candidate who exudes grace, poise, and confidence in their evening gown. Candidates will be judged on their modeling ability, overall fit of the gown, age/division appropriateness, if the gown compliments their skin tone/hair color, does the gown suit the candidates body shape, and the “whole package”. Price, brand or designer of gown has no bearing on the scoring.
Jewelry may be worn in the evening gown division but should not detract from your gown. No scarves, shawls, gloves, fans, purses, or props of any kind are allowed. Gowns must be floor length, no high-low hems allowed.
On-Stage Question: Candidates will be asked an on-stage question at the conclusion of their evening gown presentation. Candidates will select a question at random from a pre-made, age/division appropriate question list. The emcee will read the question and then the candidate will have 1-2 minutes to respond. While there is no time-limit for on-stage question points may be lost if a candidate rambles and loses focus during their answer.
Judges will be looking for the candidate who can think on their feet and is able to formulate a well thought out response in a spontaneous format. Scoring will be based on how well the candidate answers their question, how well spoken they are, comfort level and confidence with public speaking.
Questions are meant to be conversational but may include questions about current events and world news. Questions will not be political or religious in nature, nor are they designed to be controversial or to “trip up” a candidate.
